Duke Energy Monitoring Weather Conditions
10/8/2026
Duke Energy meteorologists are monitoring conditions around the clock, and our operations teams are preparing for a range of scenarios. Our goal is simple: be ready to respond safely and efficiently should customers experience outages.
Although the forecast will likely continue to change, here is the latest update from our meteorology team regarding the timing of impacts in our area:
The timing shifted a few hours earlier this weekend. Current Euro model suggests the rain beginning around 8 AM EDT Saturday morning across South Carolina, then branching across all the Carolinas through the afternoon and evening. Widespread rain will continue through early Sunday morning.
As you speak with the people in your communities, encourage residents to take a few simple steps now to prepare :
- Charge cell phones, medical devices, and backup batteries.
- Review emergency plans and ensure important contact information is easily accessible.
- Assemble or refresh an emergency kit with flashlights, batteries, medications, water, and nonperishable food.
- If using a generator, operate it outdoors and away from windows, doors, and garages.
- Stay away from downed power lines and report them immediately. Always assume they are energized.
- Sign up for outage alerts and make sure everyone in the household has a way to receive weather updates.
